The new CORSAIR HS80 RGB wireless headset is the latest entry in the HS range of Corsair Gaming headphones. While the corsair can be known mainly as a component, it also makes some quite excellent peripherals, and promises that the CORSAIR HS80 RGB wireless connection is based on its previous headphones, offering greater quality and quality of audio than ever.
Sale for $ 149.99 / £ 139.99 / AU $ 219, this is an expensive headphone, but it is not the most expensive we have tried. It is a step up to the price of HS60 HS60 HAPTIC of $ 129.99 / £ 119.99 / AU $ 199.99, so you have your work cut to show that it is worth the additional investment.
Design
When it comes to designing, Corsair HS80 RGB Wireless is a good headset, with a look similar to the other HS headphones. The parts of it are made of light machined aluminum, which gives it a solid feel, while still feeling light enough to use comfortable.
It also has a new floating headband design, which is a piece of cloth that extends between the left and right ear, and this is based on your head, instead of the most rigid upper part of the handset.
This leads to a much more comfortable experience, especially when using this headset for long periods of time. The ears pads are made of a premium sensation fabric, and you are again comfortable to use, even after several hours of play.
The general design of Corsair HS80 RGB Wireless is solid and elegant, although it is not the most exciting headset. Crucially, however, it is very comfortable.
As it suggests ‘RGB’ in the name, the Corsair HS80 RGB Wireless has a RGB lighting configurable by the user through the ICUE software. If you already have it installed because you have other corsair products, you can synchronize the lighting to the rest of your equipment.
In the cup of ears on the left, it is a power button and a volume wheel, which makes the sound adjustment pleasant and easy.
The microphone is also attached to the left, and it can knock down towards your mouth, which automatically deactivates it (and then moves it when it lifts it vertically). The microphone arm is flexible, but unlike some, it can not position it closer or further away from your mouth.
Performance
Of course, while the design is important, it is what the handset sounds that is essential, and the good news is that the Corsair HS80 RGB Wireless does an excellent job. The Headline function here is the Dolby ATMOS support on PC.
If you are not aware, Dolby Atmos is a special audio format, and one that offers sounds above the user, instead of simply surrounding the player as traditional surround sound configurations 5.1 and 7.1 are capable of.
With a Dolby Atmos configuration, then you can hear the sound of the aircraft flying over you, for example, for a more immersive experience. In games, you can help you better report where sounds come from, and that can give you a competitive advantage.
Traditionally, Dolby Atmos requires additional speakers that are placed above, where it is sitting, however, many configurations these days (especially sound bars) use rising cooking speakers that “bounce” audio from the ceiling.
With a headset such as Corsair HS80 RGB Wireless, of course, this is not possible, therefore, Dolby ATMOS support is virtual with drivers within the headset that offers a virtualized space audio experience.
While it is not as accurate, or awesome, as a complete configuration of Dolby Atmos with physical overload speakers, it offers an impressively spacious sound assembly in both games and music.
With the Dolby Access application in Windows 10, you can enable Dolby Atmos for Headphones, and what we have tried, the Corsair HS80 RGB Wireless does a good job of making the sounds feel like they come from all over the world.
A growing number of games is compatible with Dolby Atmos, but even in titles that do not support it, virtualized space audio still offers a pleasant experience. With movies enabled with ATMOS, such as 1917, the effects are also very impressive, with the greatest sense of immersion that leads to some very intense moments.
However, it is worth noting that, although Corsair HS80 RGB Wireless can be connected to a PC, PS5 or PS4, Dolby Atmos is only available on PC.
Audio is provided by a pair of 50 mm high density neodymium audio controllers with a frequency range of 20Hz-40,000Hz, and sound quality is rich and detailed. When used wirelessly (with a USB adapter included), the Corsair HS80 RGB Wireless works very well, without any type of delay or latency.
However, you can also use it as cable headphones using the included USB cable, and although this also charges the handset, it also means that the Corsair HS80 RGB wireless connection can obtain a high-fidelity audio quality 24bit / 96kHz (when Use wirelessly, resort. to 24bit / 48kHz), although this is only for stereo content, and will also disable Dolby Atmos.
Commercial
So for audiophiles, Corsair HS80 RGB Wireless offers excellent sound quality, but with some commitments.
If you do not mind losing the support of 24 bits / 96khz (and many people will be perfectly happy without it), then it benefits from Dolby Atmos, along with power wireless, with a range of 60 feet and a battery. Life up to 20 hours.
Personally, we would go for that option. Playing Cyberpunk 2077 with Dolby Atmos On, the city feels much more alive thanks to the audio from multiple addresses. We are not always taken with virtualized surround sound implementations, but the Corsair HS80 RGB Wireless really impressed us.
Through the icue software, you can play with the equalizer to get a sound that best suits you, and while the Corsair HS80 RGB Wireless is an expensive headset, audio quality in games, movies and music was fantastic, and For many people they will be well worth the price.
The microphone, which reclaims Corsair is “degree of transmission”, is omnidirectional, and the recording quality is very good. This is important when it comes to games, as it will want to be able to communicate clearly with teammates, and it is also important if you like to convey and transmit your game as well.
Of course, these days, many of us are participating in more videoclamas and meetings, so a high quality microphone is more useful than ever, and Corsair HS80 RGB Wireless delivery easily.
