The latest canonical story action at Star Wars Universe came belonging to the Star Wars comic book series from Marvel Comics. In the latest trouble (Star Wars # 16, 2021, Marvel), we see the face of a character that is very familiar, we only recognize because we have seen the cut scene from the original Star Wars film. Filmed for Star Wars (now called new hope), a scene shows Han Solo met a very human version of Jabba Hutt.
Initially filmed for the first Star Wars film, a scene featuring Harrison Ford and his first meeting with Jabba The Hutt, as played by Declan Mulholland. Below you will see a good-built 3-up video that shows the first version of the scene and the next editing (including the last version left in the “final” film cut today).
This original human jabba was not exactly what was originally planned by George Lucas. Depending on who you ask, this scene is filmed as a placeholder for the special effect to be added later – stop-motion, or something that has not been found for the creator with Lucas imagination. This scene does not make pieces for the original version of the film – just then brought back so technology can fulfill the task.
The human version of Jabba has a fairly distinctive appearance. Not too different like Jabba turned out, of course – but still. He has potential! What seemed very similar to the same character as described by Mulholland who appeared in Star Wars comics here in 2021.
As found by Gizmodo this week, here at Comic Star Wars # 16 (2021), we see the same face we look back at the cut scene from new expectations (1977). This comic strip shows the same size and shape character as the original film representation of Jabba, complete with fur coats, brown hair, and white sideboard.
This character is effectively destroyed in a quick sequence, complete with what might be interpreted as a naughty puncture on the persistence of the original Jabba Recording, or Mulholland’s personality from Jabba in general.
Maybe this newest character displayed in the Star Wars Marvel Comic book from 2021 is nothing but a character heater. Just like Santa Mall, the heating story seems to be one of the “stand-in” for Jabba.
Heaters are, or, the first way in which Mulholland character fits back to the Star Wars universe – with a different name. Mulholland’s original footage would ultimately match the graphics that match the vision of George Lucas for this project, but not before the visual representation of Jabba humans was converted into one of the “heaters”. The heater can be heard in the original Star Wars radio drama as voiced by Joel Brooks in the scene which is basically the same as we saw in the original Jabba record.
Furthermore, the heater is displayed in “Star Wars: an important guide for the character” published in 1995, then in writing in the stories of the Jabba Palace. He also appeared in Topps trading cards with very clear illustrations using the original Jabba recording as the source material, as a heater from radio drama. This card is part of the 2013 Star Wars Topps which illustrates a new expectation set.
That is possible, but it is not completely possible that this heater is the same person as we saw in the new Star Wars 2021 comic. If we believe there is a sacred timeline of the canonical facts that form a Star Wars universe like today, the heater will remain (most likely) to be part of the Jabba crew at the point where this new Star Wars comic is set – between the empire attacked and returned from Jedi .
